A six-month-old baby has died in Durban after he was found in a cabin covered with a mosquito net.
Speaking on Tuesday, KwaZulu-Natal police spokesman Capt. Nqobile Gwala said they had launched an investigation into the death of a six-month-old baby found in his bed on Monday.
The baby was reportedly asleep in bed when a curtain used to protect babies from being bitten by a mosquito was wrapped around his face and body.
Reacting to the news, The Director of Reaction Unit SA Prem Balram, said they responded to the scene just before noon on Monday.
He said the child was unresponsive after being assessed.
Balram said it is alleged that the cot where the child had been sleeping was covered with a mosquito curtain to avoid the infant being bitten by mosquitoes.
“According to the father he fell asleep and when he returned to check on the baby he found the curtain wrapped around his neck. The child was unresponsive and cyanosed.”
